Historic building of Fardella
Categoria: MONUMENTAL HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
Built in 1914, as testified by the inscription over the portal, Villa Costanza is one of the few examples with a strong correlation between the architectural element and the natural setting: the need for vast green spaces resulted in a natural park of about 12,000 sqm located on the edge of the town.
The complex was built by order of Father Carmelo Costanza when he returned from America. The villa is located near the eastern entrance to the town, concealed by thick vegetation guaranteeing, still to this day, complete peacefulness and privacy. Recently renovated, over the years the building did not undergo substantial changes, therefore retaining its original appearance and beauty. Only used as a residence, it consists of a central body with protruding side wings.
Aligned with the marble entrance door, there is a beautiful hexagonal veranda with stained glass windows, blue walls ending in a finely decorated pink cornice. From the main entrance, there is a corridor on the right and one on the left, each leading to the rooms, including the small family chapel with a marble altar and a lamb with the cross on its back standing at the centre.
The complex also comprises the caretaker’s house with the stables, located on the secondary eastern entrance, the dovecote to the west, immersed in the vegetation and a deep cave.
The Costanza family also had a small chapel inside the municipal cemetery, built in 1925, with two hexagonal in antis columns holding a gable trabeation.
The family’s farming activities were based in the Sant’Onofrio farmhouse, purchased from the noble Giura family from Chiaromonte.
